And… We’re back from Kuching!

It’s been a rather satisfying experience in Kuching considering it is our first trip there. We were in Kuching on the 14th and 15th of May for a hedging and trading talks targeted at corporate and retail sectors.

This time we were privileged to work together with DAR Wong and his APSRI traders team once again.

The first talk on May 14, 2011, titled Shifting Your Risk in CPO Business Through Hedging was held at Crown Tower’s Auditorium in Jalan Pending, Kuching. The talk was aimed at business professionals from plantation and palm oil industry such planters, producers, millers, crushers, refiners, exporters and oleochemical producers. About 30 professionals from different palm oil sectors came to learn about CPO futures hedging and how it can help their business to hedge against price fluctuation, save cost and increase profits.

DAR began by giving an overview of the crude palm oil industry in Malaysia. According to him, although Malaysia is the second biggest exporter of crude palm oil besides Indonesia, he stated that we definitely have the highest quality of crude palm oil. He also shared with the audience about CPO business risk management via hedging. As price fluctuates through the months, palm oil related companies are susceptible to these price fluctuations and hence exposing themselves to the risk.

He continued by prompting the participants to keep on a lookout on the US economy as well as the US monetary policy as their decisions will affect commodities prices worldwide including crude palm oil prices.

The following day, we held a second talk titled Millionaire Trader’s Value in Futures Trading for the retail sectors specifically traders and individuals who are interested in margin trading as a form of investment.

The event kicked off with a short introduction to Oriental Pacific Futures by the Director of Marketing, Eunice Choo.

These three students are among the many that DAR has trained throughout the years to become successful full time traders themselves.

DAR then proceeded to share about trader’s values. He explained that a trader must first get their mindset of trading right, before trying to seek after the techniques and methods to help them profit from the market. They must first adopt positive values in trading including having intrinsic money management.

With the two successful events in East Malaysia, we believe we have made an impact by educating both corporate and retail sectors on futures. We believe that this will be also an open door and a good opportunity for us to expand our services more in that region.
