Spread Trading Preview

If you know about, have heard of, or are employing spread trading strategies, you are in for a treat. On the January 23, Bursa Malaysia Derivatives has launched two new types of spreads for the FCPO: Butterfly and Iron Condor.

For those who do not know what spread trading is, let us explain it to you in the simplest terms possible. Spread trading is essentially a trading strategy that involves concurrently initiating a long position in one contract and a short position in a different contract. It similar to long/short strategy that is common among hedge funds. Such a strategy is designed to minimize the risk inherent in single-direction trades. Ultimately, you are hoping that the profit from one of the position would exceed the loss from the other position. The most common combination of spread trades is the calendar spreads, in which a trader goes long on one contract month and goes short on another contract month of one specific type of commodity.

With the introduction of Butterfly and Condor spreads, we now have more ways to design our spread strategies. The Butterfly would involve three contract months while the Condor would take position in four. Both these spreads are difficult to explain in the limited space we have here. But now there is a chance for you to learn both through our Profesional Live Spread Trading!

In conjunction with the launch of Butterfly and Condor spreads, our spread trading mentor CC Yong will be sharing his knowledge, experience and secrets that will help you hone your craft and skills in spread trading. Just drop by at the spread trading seminar organized by Oriental Pacific Futures and learn more about the advantages of spread trading!
